Backing up your Beacon Data is critical to your business. Are you backing up correctly?

Your Beacon data is central to running your business, it contains your sites Sales Transactions, Supplier Transactions, Debtor transactions as well as Stock File and other critical information. During the daily Shift Reconciliation process Beacon will prompt to perform a back up to your local computer and also copy this to either an external Hard Drive or a One Drive.

It is critical that you ensure that this process is completed on a regular basis - we recommend daily.

Why do I need a back up of my data?

If something goes wrong at your site, for example a Back Office PC Fails or you are the victim of a cyber attack, Beacon are able to rebuild your data from a back up.  If you are not performing your backups, or you are only saving them on the local PC this will not be possible and you may end up having to rebuild your Beacon data from scratch.

Tips for managing your backups effectively

  • Perform your Beacon backup and save to either an external Hard Drive or One Drive every time you do a Shift Rec

  • If you are using an external Hard Drive - Unplug it from the computer after doing the backup

  • If you are using an external Hard Drive - Keep a back up off site

  • If you are using a OneDrive ensure you have enough room for your Back Ups and periodically clear out older back ups
